TESTIMONIALS

"Early in our country’s history, while it was an agrarian society, education was information poor but experience rich as students learned much from interacting with their community. In the 1900s education changed to become information rich but experience poor as learning was relegated to the classroom in a school with little knowledge gained outside the classroom.

Senior Field Studies is different in that it is information rich and experience rich. What is taught in the classroom is used directly outside the school with the field trips and hands on experiences offered the students. Knowledge gained is used immediately. It is a very good educational model."  |  Mark Leachman

“I’ve been a volunteer leader with Senior Field Studies for the backpacking trip in Arizona for 13 years, plus the year I participated as a high school senior—14 adventures in total! This incredible nine-day trek through the stunning Tonto National Forest has been a cornerstone of SFS for over 30 years.

On the trail, students dive into wilderness education through hands-on experiences and reflection. They build self-confidence while developing essential skills in decision-making, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork. Along the way, they interact with leaders from diverse careers, sparking inspiration and helping them envision their own futures.

In my patrol, for example, students get bonus geology lessons and a glimpse into the daily life of a geologist—a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.”  |  Rachel H.
"Today’s students are far stronger than they realize, but the traditional educational environment often shields them from opportunities to push beyond their perceived limits. At FSCO, we believe in creating experiences that empower students to discover their resilience, embrace challenges, and redefine what they think is possible."  | Steve Porentas
